With the current climate that we live in, it’s not surprising that many parents are turning to homeschooling. Check out these tips and information!
Tips For Homeschooling
- Know the local homeschooling requirements: Many local school districts are offering hybrid options that allow students to be back in the classroom for part of the day. While this might work for many students, other families are choosing to part ways with the school district and switch to home learning. If you decide to educate at home, be sure that you know the local homeschooling rules and regulations. If you’d like more information about Illinois homeschooling regulations, click here.
- Know your goals: Some people may be using this opportunity to permanently transition to learning at home only. Others may see this as a temporary situation until the pandemic ends. If this is a temporary situation for you and you plan to return to the school district, you may want to stick to traditional curriculum that aligns well with the schools. If this is more of a long term situation, you may consider switching things up and tailoring the curriculum to really suit your child.
- Connect with locals: If you are new to homeschooling, make an effort to find local homeschooling groups near you. Facebook is a great place to start. Search for local groups and connect with others in the same boat as you. Typically, kids that are schooled at home spend a lot of their time connecting with other kids, learning from other adults in the community, visiting art galleries and museums, etc. Since the pandemic has changed a lot for everyone, it’s a good idea to see how others are navigating this time.
- Have fun: Lastly, enjoy this time! Whether you kids are at home or at school, this is an unprecedented time. Focus on creating memories and enjoying your kids.
