Home Staging Tips

If you are thinking about selling your home, or it’s currently on the market, home staging is vital. The whole idea behind staging is to create a scene that buyers want to be in. Staging a home isn’t difficult and it also is not expensive. You can even use items that you already own!

Use Vignettes

You may be wondering what exactly a vignette is. In short, it’s using items and/or furniture to help define a space and showcase how the room/space can be used. Vignettes help to set a scene and create a mood as well as assist a potential buyer in seeing the potential of a space. For example, you can stage a front porch by having a rocking chair, potted plant, and small side table with a beverage on it. In a kitchen, you can have a bowl of fruit on the counter, a candle, and a small decor item. A bathroom could have a nice towel by the tub, a candle, and bath salts in a glass container. The possibilities are endless and you probably have countless items already in your home that can be used.

Sterilize

Sterilizing your home is not what it may sound like; I don’t mean creating a hospital-like environment devoid of any character or charm. I simply mean creating a home interior where the potential buyer knows that someone lives there but it’s almost like a blank canvas where the buyer can see themselves living there. Think of a time when you’ve walked through a model home; it appears as though a family is living there but it’s a clean home that you can see yourself living in.

Store Away The Evidence

Evidence? What evidence? The evidence that your home is lived in or ever dirty should be hidden. This means that extra cooking supplies, towels, clothing, shoes, toys, hobby accessories, cleaning supplies, etc. should be tucked away. When someone walks into your home, you want them to really fall in love with the space instead of being reminded that this is someone else’s home. As far as cleaning supplies go, we all know that as a homeowner you need to have these things on hand, but having a bunch of cleaning products laying around will paint a picture of everyday mundane life. You really want a potential buyer to be able to see themselves living in your home.
