Selling your home in the winter can be great and can mean a quick sale, but there are some key mistakes to avoid when selling right now. Dirty windows, a cold home, and too much snow are just some problems to avoid.
Too cold: Not cranking up the heat can save money but it’s the wrong move when it comes to showing your home. A chilly home translates to uninviting and cold so keeping your home at about 68-70 degrees for showings is perfect.
Dirty windows: Let’s face it-cleaning windows during the winter time isn’t usually on the top of a homeowner’s to do list but it’s a must for winter home selling. With all of the trees bare, more sunlight filters into the windows on sunny days which means all the dirt and fingerprints on the glass become highly visible. Don’t forget to clean the windows to let the sunshine in!
Not shoveling: Always be sure to clear the driveway, walkways, sidewalks and pathways. Potential buyers will appreciate not having to walk through an obstacle course to get into your home.
Old pictures: Although your home and it’s landscaping look great in the spring and summer, resist the urge to use those photos for your listing. Having photos from a different season can be a red flag for buyers and make it look like you have been sitting on the market for a long time. Use current photos and add some greenery on the front porch for curb appeal.
