What are some bad homeowner habits? Do you have any of them? Read on to find out what you should be doing differently in your home.
- Running the dishwasher too often: If you run the dishwasher when it’s not full, water is being wasted. Try to only run the dishwasher when it’s totally full which will save water and money.
- Remodeling too soon: Moving into a new home can inspire you to make changes to the home right away but that may not be the best idea. Unless the home is a fixer upper and it needs obvious work done, a good rule of thumb is to wait at least 6 months before you make any major changes. Give yourself some time to live in the home in order to determine what changes would work best for you and your family.
- Not taking care of the bathroom: Showering without an exhaust fan running and not cleaning grout periodically will cause problems in the space. Mold can grow and grout can become too dirty to clean easily.
- Going overboard with mulch: It may seem like the more mulch piled around a tree the better, but that isn’t the case. Too much mulch can suffocate the tree and cause the root to rot. Instead, be sure that the mulch is loosely piled around the trunk of the tree which will allow water to properly flow to the roots.
