It is time to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day! This year Saint Patrick’s Day is on Friday March 17th. Now is the time to plan ahead for a great Saint Patrick’s Day Celebration! So many ways to celebrate, including actual Irish traditions!
First, let’s start off with the most obvious, and the one that will come first. Saturday March 11th will be the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Chicago at 12:30 p.m. But to catch a parade a little closer to home, try the parade in Plainfield. Fun Fact: Blue was the original color of Saint Patrick’s Day!
Don’t forget to wear your shamrock! EVERYONE is Irish on Saint Patrick’s Day! Did you know the color associated with Saint Patrick’s Day use to be Blue?
Let’s move on to dinner, the traditional Saint Patrick’s Day dinner is corned beef and cabbage. It is not hard to make, but why not have it prepared for you in an Irish pub? Irish pubs are great all year long, but on Saint Patrick’s Day they go all out! Many will have live Irish songs, dancers, and the atmosphere that will have you missing Ireland, even if you have never been there!
How about some green beer? This tradition you will not find in Ireland, it was started in other countries. In Ireland Saint Patrick’s Day is a religious holiday. Until the 1970’s, it was illegal for pubs to be open on Saint Patrick’s Day!
