Remodeling Kitchen – Things NOT to Do

Remodeling Kitchen with syle and functionality.

Remodeling kitchen is a big project, and can be very expensive. Make sure you do your homework and have a clear plan so that things do not get off target which can lead to more money and lots of stress! I have some important things that you should NOT DO if you want a successful kitchen remodel!

  1. Don’t Do It Alone

No matter how handy you are or how much you know it is always a good idea to bounce your ideas off of someone else. Consult a professional kitchen designer and they can offer you advice and tips. Sometimes they can see something you are missing or have ideas that you haven’t considered. A kitchen designer can end up saving you time and money!
  2. Don’t Forget Your Budget

Make sure your first step in your remodeling kitchen project is to create a budget. Decide what is most important as far as the features in your kitchen and stick to the budget! Things can go off course quickly and can add up to huge budget problems!
  3. Don’t Wait Till Last to Choose Appliances

Remember that the counters and cabinets can be adjusted to fit any area, but appliances are set sizes! If a certain appliance is going to be the core of your kitchen, make sure that you have allocated the space for it!
  4. Don’t Stick to What You Know

New products and ideas are coming out daily! So many new ways to utilize space in the kitchen that you might not even know about! Think about the way you use your kitchen and what could help you do that better. Then look for ways to accomplish it! Did you know they make toe-kick storage for underneath the cabinet? Finally, don’t be scared to try new things!
  5. Don’t Give Up Counter Space

Counter space is the most important parts of your kitchen, and the most expensive. Usually the cabinets and counters cost is one third of the total remodeling cost! There are many ways to extend the counter work space. Add an island that can also be used as a breakfast bar. If not enough room a cabinet on wheels that can be moved to where you need it and then tucked out of the way when done.
  6. Don’t Forget Your Workflow

Kitchen designers refer to a work triangle in the kitchen between the three busiest areas which are the refrigerator, the stove, and the sink. The flow between these areas is very important for the efficiency of the kitchen. Appliances do not have to stay in the same location, hookups for appliances can be moved.
  7. Don’t Overlook Storage Options

So many choices that can greatly enhance your storage compactly but also the efficiency. Putting in lazy susans in the cabinet corners will not only help your sanity but will allow easier access, or maybe even pantry pullouts. Hiding the garbage in a pull out cabinet can solve many problems!
  8. Don’t Forget the Final Outcome

Make sure that everything comes together when competed. Between the colors of the appliances, flooring, paint, backsplash, cabinets and counters, and even the lighting! Nothing can be overlooked! Maybe add some color in the backsplash which can be a focal point in the kitchen.

The Outcome – A Beautiful Kitchen!

Remodeling a kitchen will give you years of joy and comfort if you take the time to make sure it is what you want and what you need. Just make sure you are on track to your goals. When done, the outcome will be a kitchen that you are proud of!
