Historic Downtown Plainfield
There are several great reasons for you to tour the history rich downtown area of Plainfield. It is home to a Civil War enlistment center, an opera house, the oldest continuously used church in the Will County area, and a gas station on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic downtown area stretches from Lockport Street to Route 59 to James Street as well as south of Lockport Street along DesPlaines and Chicago. In 2013, downtown Plainfield was named to the National Register of Historic Places. Plainfield is only the 15th downtown area in Illinois to receive this honor. If you enjoy history, you will love touring this vibrant and history rich area.
To kick off your tour, pick up a brochure at the Plainfield Public Library, Village Hall, or the Chamber of Commerce. Not only are there numerous historic places to visit, you should also stop at the amazing bars, restaurants, and shops.
