If you are planning on listing your home in the next few months, it’s important to prep your home for the spring real estate market.
Even though spring feels far away, the spring real estate market is almost here! If you are considering putting your home on the market soon, it’s important to take steps to prepare your home to sell.
Clutter
-Get rid of clutter. It’s important to showcase the space in your home and one important step to take in doing so is to get rid of unwanted clutter. Clean out drawers, closets, and other storage spaces and throw out or donate any items you no longer want or need. This not only helps with showing your home to potential buyers, but it also makes the moving process easier.
Repairs
-Make repairs. If there are things in your home that are in need of repairs, make them now. Leaky faucets, holes in the wall, etc. should be taken care of as soon as possible. Before a sale is finalized, the buyers will have a home inspector done. It’s best to get ahead of any known issues before inspection time.
Depersonalize
-Start to depersonalize. Taking down personal items such as family photos will help the buyer better visualize themselves in your home.
Focus on furniture
-Evaluate your furniture. If you have too much furniture or pieces that are too large for the space, consider donating or selling those items. Too much furniture or furniture that is too large can take away from the size of your home and make it appear small and cluttered.
Clean
-Deep clean your home. Having a clean home is imperative when selling. Windows, carpets, blinds, etc. all need to be cleaned thoroughly.
Paint
-Paint if needed. Repainting spaces that have bright or very dark colors with a more neutral tone is a good idea and fairly cheap to do. A light and neutral color palate is best when selling.
Curb appeal
– Focus on curb appeal. Ensure that your trees and bushes are trimmed and any fallen leaves are cleaned up. If your mail box or house numbers have seen better days, repaint or replace them.
