2018 design trends include moving away from grays and neutrals and towards bold jewel tones. Wood flooring is also seeing changes as well as spaces in the home.
Aspirational rooms
Homeowners are starting to move further away from traditional rooms and more towards “aspirational spaces”. People are beginning to use rooms to create a space to invoke a desired feeling such as a home office to promote focus or a meditation room to inspire peace and relaxation. Expect to see homes with uniquely designed spaces in 2018.
Bold hues
2017 was all about neutral colors in the home with gray being a wildly popular choice. 2018 will usher in bold jewel tones and not just on the walls. Boldly colored furniture and kitchen cabinets will be a popular design choice. Look for navy blue pops in the kitchen to be frequently used. Although neutral colors should still be a part of design, don’t be afraid to go with a pop of color. This year’s popular jewel tones
will include red, dark blue, and deep green.
Wide plank wood floors
Traditional 2 1/4″ wide wood flooring is out the window and 5 inch wood planks are becoming the standard. Movement towards wide plank wood flooring is strong; wide planks are perfect for industrial style interiors as well as rustic (think modern farmhouse).
