These five things are very important for everyone to do when moving into a new home. Make these 5 things a priority shortly after moving day!
- Clean out the cabinets: Give all cabinets a good cleaning both on the inside and outside before putting away dishes and drinkware.
- Check for plumbing leaks: Although the home inspector should have inspected for leaks already, it’s not a bad idea to check again. One way to know for sure if there are any leaks is to check the water meter during a one to two hour period of no water being used in the home. If the reading is different, there is a leak somewhere in the house.
- Steam clean the carpets
- Change the locks: Deadbolts can be changed yourself for about $10 a lock or a locksmith can change the locks for about $25 a lock if you provide the lock.
- Know the location of the main water valve and the circuit breaker box
