Most sellers want to sell their home quickly and for the most money, but not every seller is prepared. There are several key things that you should think about if selling your home in order to make the process as quick and smooth as possible.

  • Do any needed repairs- it’s important that your home shows well and is cared for so any repair work that needs to be done should be completed if possible.
  • Try to remove some of the personal touches that are in your home-these include personal pictures on the walls, and also includes any rooms or areas of the house that you have designated for a personal purpose other than the intended purpose. Maybe you turned one of the bedrooms into a storage room or you transformed a room into a workout area. These rooms should be converted back into bedrooms so that buyers can see the space for what it is.
  • Reclaim the garage-if you turned your garage into an office or a play area for instance, it may be time to clear out the space so that cars can park there. Show the garage as a clean, usable space that can fit  cars in it. Many buyers may not want to park on the street just for a few hundred extra square feet of living space and appraisers may take thousands off of the appraisal if cars cannot park there because it’s considered a loss of covered parking space.
  • Remove any strong odors-this obviously goes for foul smells but also for any candles or scents that you may have in your home as well. Too much of a good thing may make buyers think you are trying to cover something up.
The goal is to make the home have mass appeal and this can be done when removing some of these roadblocks.
