These local libraries in the western suburbs have so much to offer for kids.

  • Plainfield Public Library: 15025 S. Illinois Street Plainfield. (815) 436-6639. They offer several reading programs for kids including milk and cookies story time, drop in play doh dates, chemistry events, cookie decorating, video game events, preschool crafts and much more.
  • Naperville Public Library: 200 W Jefferson Avenue Naperville. (630) 961-4100. This campus, named the Nichols Library, has an awesome kids area. Your children can put on a puppet show, play with dolls and doll houses, play games, complete mazes, do puzzles and much more. The other benefit to this location is it is right downtown Naperville and there is so much to do there including many fun shops and great restaurants. During the warmer months, the Naperville RiverWalk located right downtown is a fantastic place for families to hang out.

  • Downers Grove Public Library: 1050 Curtiss Street Downers Grove. (630) 960-1200. This location offers a generously sized play area complete with iPads, puzzles, blocks, a doll house, a train table and more. Next, there is a play cafe where kids can creatively play with pretend food, a cash register and more. If you have a baby, there is something for them too! Also, there is an entire area that is padded with activities for littles.

  • Elmhurst Public Library: 125 S. Prospect Avenue Elmhurst. (630) 279-8696. First, this large library welcomes you with an aquatic display. They have a learning garden play area for babies and toddlers as well as computers, huge stuffed animals and unique seating for the older patrons. They also offer baby play times, STEM workshops, Lego club, story time and more. One of the best features of this library is the cafe! They have coffee and food available for purchase and you can even bring your own food in. Finally, they are located very close to downtown Elmhurst so you can easily make an afternoon out of this visit.
  • LaGrange Public Library: 10 W. Cossitt Avenue La Grange. (708) 215-3200. The kids section has a variety of activity tables and a learning wall. The library was recently revamped. Lastly, they offer music sessions, crafts, story times and more.
