Cornerstone Early Learning Center is both a preschool and a daycare and has been open for 5 years but has recently moved to a new 2 acre facility located on 135th street in Plainfield. The third annual Wounded Warrior 5K event just got approval from the Plainfield Village Board and now the organizers need your help! This important event which benefits local servicemen and women will take place on Saturday, May 24th at Settler’s Park in downtown Plainfield. The organizers are asking kid’s help in designing the children’s T-shirts that the kids will wear this year. Children between the ages of 5 and 10 are invited to draw their idea of a military hero on the official entry form (find the form here) and submit it between 11 am and 3 pm on Saturday, March 15th at Nevin’s Brewing Company, 12337 S. Route 59 in Plainfield. The winning design will be featured on all kid’s T-shirts. A volunteer sign up will also be held at Nevin’s the same day and time for assisting with registration, packet pick-up, and refreshments at the May 24th race. Race course assistants and volunteers for the water stations are also needed. Both runners and walkers can now sign up for the race which begins at 8 am at Settler’s Park, 24000 W Lockport Street. Advanced registration is available until May 19th for $30 for adults (11&up), and $20 for kids 10 and under. After May 19th, the prices increase by $5.

The Greater Joliet Area YMCA’s 7th annual Giving Gala is coming back to the Bolingbrook Golf Club on Saturday, Feb. 22nd. The Gala is a black-tie event and supports the YMCA scholarship program which allows families going through difficult financial times to still be a part of the YMCA. The YMCA does not turn anyone away that cannot pay so this event helps to make that possible.
The event begins at 6 pm and kicks off with cocktails and appetizers which guests can enjoy while listening to a jazz combo. Following dinner, the Gold Coast Orchestra will play from 9 pm until midnight. The event also features both live and silent auctions with auction items including Blackhawks tickets, a stay at a vacation home in Cabo San Lucas, dinner for 10 along with wine pairings at Plainfield’s Hopscotch & Vine, a Chicago getaway package, and more. New this year is a cash raffle which guests can enter for $25 in order to win prizes of $500, $1,000 or $1,500.
Tickets to the gala are $150 a person or $1,500 for a table of 10. The ticket price includes dinner, dancing, and an open bar.
